We have an opportunity for a Automation and Control Specialist.

Job Summary

The Automation and Control Engineer (or Specialist) is accountable to the Project Engineering Manager and is responsible for all activities involving the design, implementation, and ongoing monitoring/support for process automation and control systems for automated and industrial IT systems. This encompasses all aspects of a controls lifecycle and includes conceptual and detailed design, installation, commissioning/qualification, start-up, maintenance/repair, monitoring, reporting, and decommissioning of process equipment computer and control/electrical systems.

 

Responsibilities

Automation

  • Serves as the primary site contact and subject matter expert for the automation, data processing, and industrial network systems.
  • Own, lead & adapt the automation obsolescence program and manage the deployment of obsolescence program in conjunction with Septodont Harmonization Strategy. Participate to a multi-year capital plan definition.
  • Leads lifecycle management for all critical control components installed across process equipment on site (industrial computers, PLCs, motion controllers, HMIs, etc.).
  • Acts as Project Manager for all major Electrical and Control systems capital projects, reviews drawings and specifications, and serves as the main approver of all Electrical and Control system design.
  • Participate in the design and specification generation process for electrical and control systems facility and process equipment, including design specifications, functional specifications, and user requirement specification for both facilities and process equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, adjusts, repairs, calibrates, or installs all types of electrical equipment having complex interlocking or integration.
  • Ensures that all electrical and automation work is completed according to respective codes.
  • Maintain asset registry list of all system (industrial computers, PLC, …) for each industrial system and equipment, also considering operating system, network, connectivity.

Data Integrity

  • Evaluates data integrity compliance (applies to data collection, analysis, reporting and retention) defines guidelines for new systems, and deploys action plans for existing system if noncompliant. Leads and supports risk assessments for control systems for GMP and 21CFR Part 11 compliance using tools such as FMEA. Data integrity applies to
    Industrial IT
  • Cyber-security (working with IT): deploy the action plan to secure the different systems including, network segmentation, end point protection, system image back up, local administrator password solution, passive scanning agent, remote access and Active Directory security group… Define the strategy for industrial manufacturing system patch management.
  • Defines common and/or local rules and methodologies for IT industrial system operation (back-up/restore, data integrity, security). Evaluate the status of disaster recovery plan and implement relevant procedures.
  • Develop and support implementation and monitor compliance with corporate standards for Electrical and Control Systems engineering, maintenance, and validation processes.

Interpersonal

  • Build strong relationships with local internal stakeholders in each of the key business units.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Technical Services, IT, Maintenance …) within the different sites to deliver new Electrical and Control Systems equipment, facilities and capabilities.
  • Follows GMP and regulatory requirements, and ensures quality standards are met.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Electrical Engineering or
  • Bachelor of Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with a controls/electrical background

Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of similar and relevant experience in process automation and controls
  • Previous experience in a GMP manufacturing environment is considered an asset (knowledge of GMP, validation process…)
  • Proven able to read and interpret electrical and control drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with assigned projects by developing mitigation plans, following set escalation plans as necessary and proactively monitoring risks throughout the project.
  • Management of medium to large projects that involve complex process automation and systems integration.
  • Excellent knowledge of instrumentation and field control devices. Working knowledge in Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, and Wonderware programming
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking standards with previous experience in the deployment of integrated systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven analytical, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.   
  • Effective organizational, time management and detail-orientation skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, taking initiative and prioritizing work.
  • English business fluency.
