We have an opportunity for a Energy Specialist.

Job Summary

The Energy Specialist’s objective is to identify, design and implement plans and actions to improve the energy performance at the Cambridge site in line with the Group’s global sustainability plans and strategies. The Energy Specialist is the site’s energy SME and drives Cambridge sites initiatives and actions to maintain compliance and accomplish Septodont’s sustainability global objectives. 

Responsibilities

  • Identify, define, implement, maintain, and manage an Energy dashboard, monitoring system (gas, electricity, and water).
  • Analyze utilities consumption and trending.
  • Manage the monitoring system energy performance including electric, gas and water.
  • Create and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and measurement system for Utilities consumption and propose actions plans to improve performance and generate savings.
  • Makes recommendations to local and global leadership and executive team to set plans and goals including development of energy policies and roadmaps in conjunction with environmental sustainability plans.
  • Develop and use energy models to accurately represent energy use and consumption (electric, gas and water) at workcentre, equipment and facility levels, outlining variable and fixed consumption.
  • Identify, develop, plan, and implement projects and initiatives to meet goals and objectives and reduce energy consumption, including but not limited to:
    o   Utilities projects such as boilers, cooling towers with associated safety, cost, and operational implications
    o   Production equipment, HVAC and general facility changes with associated compliance implications
    o   Other large impact/high ROI projects to be identified by the Energy Specialist
  • Assess project engineering risk and energy/cost reduction estimates. Provide technical analysis/review for energy upgrade projects.
  • Develop scopes of work for and manage consulting engineers and contractors.
  • Develop energy reduction project plans, including budgets, return on investment and payback calculations and formally request funding (CAR).
  • Analyze and assess the economic impacts of utility company rate structures, purchase programs, rebates, and incentives.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on energy and water conservation and reduction, including all project management tasks from development through final installation verification.
  • Create monthly reports on energy upgrades progress.
  • Utilizes internal and external resources to identify, plan and execute initiatives and projects.
  • Identify and lead energy and environmental sustainability, efficiency, capacity and cost reduction initiatives with the Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Environmental Health, Safety, and other departments.
  • Ensures compliance with energy regulations and ensures that information is collected and shared with the relevant site leadership and global executive stakeholders.
  • Propose and implement a strategy to develop an energy management system based on continuous improvement, considering downtime, turnaround times and waste reduction while maintaining the highest standard of quality.
  • Lead site coordination of equipment risk registry for all equipment (both Production related and utilities/facilities)

Qualifications

  • Define, optimize and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed to facilitate integration with an energy management system.
  • Energy ambassador for the site aligning site on goals and ambitions, direct communication lead to site leadership.
  • Ensures approved contractors maintain compliance with internal Contractor Compliance program.
  • Maintains a high level of pharmaceutical compliance and regulatory safety in all aspects of work.
  • Follows GMP and regulatory requirements, and ensures quality standards are met.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Engineering Science degree is a requirement
  • P.Eng is an Asset

 

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in pharmaceutical, food/beverage or consumer packaging. 5+ years of experience considered an asset.
  • 2+ years in Energy and Utility management
  • Demonstrated mastery of energy consumption modeling and use of measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of energy consumption optimization methods and technologies for equipment, processes, utilities and building systems.
  • Able to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings/schematics.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates initiative, problem solving, and teamwork
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills
